SapphireOne Server Files and Folders

Files and Folders on your Server

Overview

It is important to note that the desktop is not a recommended location for installing SapphireOne’s software. While it may be tempting to place the application on the desktop for easy access, doing so can cause issues with performance and stability of the software.

Similarly, it is not recommended to store the data file on the desktop. Instead, it should be stored in a separate folder of its own to ensure that it is easily accessible and managed.

For both Mac and Windows platforms, SapphireOne should be installed in the appropriate program folders, such as the Applications folder on a Mac or the Program Files folder on Windows. By following these guidelines and properly configuring the installation and storage of SapphireOne and its associated data files, users can optimize the performance and reliability of the software.

Finally, it is recommended that pictures and documents be stored either as a part of the data file or in separate folders, as needed. By keeping data organized and easily accessible, users can make the most of SapphireOne’s powerful features and capabilities.

Mac folder SapphireOne locations.

When installing SapphireOne on a Mac, it is recommended to create the SapphireOne folder in the Applications folder. It is important to note that on a Mac, the server folder will be named SapphireOne XX.X Server and the contents of the folder will be hidden. The X’s being the version number at the time of installation.

To view the contents of the folder, users will need to right-click on the SapphireOne app and select the “Show Contents” option. This will allow users to access and manage the files and settings associated with SapphireOne on their Mac.

By following these steps and properly configuring the SapphireOne folder, users can ensure that their SapphireOne application is installed and configured correctly on their Mac, allowing them to take full advantage of the powerful features and capabilities of the software.

Windows folder locations 64bit Applications.

It’s important to note that SapphireOne is now a 64-bit application on a Windows platform. As such, it should be installed in the appropriate folder, such as the Program Files folder for 64-bit applications.

On the Windows platform, the Program Files (x86) folder is used for legacy 32-bit applications, while the Program Files folder is used for 64-bit applications. If SapphireOne is already installed correctly in the (x86) folder, it could be left as is. However, if installing SapphireOne for the first time or updating to a newer version, it is recommended to install it in the Program Files folder to take advantage of its 64-bit capabilities.

By installing SapphireOne in the correct program folder, users can ensure that the software operates efficiently and takes full advantage of the capabilities of their PC’s hardware.

General Storage Folder.

To properly configure SapphireOne on a Mac or Windows platform, users should create a folder named SapphireOne in the Applications folder on a Mac or the Program Files folder on a Windows platform.

Within the SapphireOne folder, users should then create a folder named SapphireOneConstants or any name they deem suitable. This folder should be used to hold the live data file and must remain in the same place on the directory tree, although Mac and Windows do display these folders differently.

Later in this article, documentation will be provided on the proper configuration and management of the SapphireOneConstants folder on both Mac and Windows platforms. By following these guidelines and best practices, users can ensure the smooth operation and reliability of SapphireOne, as well as protect their valuable data and associated documents and pictures.

Data File Name and Location.

Company Data File Location.

Selecting the appropriate location for the Live SapphireOne Data File is critical to ensuring the safety and security of your data file. It is recommended to avoid storing the data file on the desktop of the server, as it can be accidentally deleted or moved if the server is not running.

It is important to carefully consider where to store the data file and to implement a consistent and reliable system for tracking its location. Once a decision has been made and implemented, it is advisable to record the location and take a screenshot for future reference. This can help ensure that the data file can be easily located and accessed in the event of any issues or concerns.

Folder name for the Data File.

To maintain consistency and organization, SapphireOne recommends naming the Live SapphireOne Data File folder as ALiveDataFile or A Live Data File. This naming convention clearly indicates that the folder contains the company’s live working data file, making it easy to locate and access when necessary.

By preceding the folder name with the letter A, it will be alphabetically listed at the top of the folder hierarchy, making it even easier to locate and access. By implementing this naming convention, users can ensure that their data is organized and easily accessible, helping to optimize the performance and efficiency of the SapphireOne system.

Data File Name.

Many companies choose to name their Live SapphireOne Data File folder after a shortened version of their company name for ease of identification and organization. It is important to note that the actual name of the data file can be any name required and is typically named after the company itself.

For example, SapphireOne might name their data file SapphireOne.4DD. However, it is important to keep the file name concise and easy to identify, so it is recommended to use a name between 6 and 12 characters long.

By following these guidelines, companies can ensure that their Live SapphireOne Data File is organized and easily identifiable, while also ensuring that the data file name itself is concise and manageable.
